Laura's Corn Snake Blog
I will use this blog for not only my recordkeeping purposes, but also for the research of others just starting off with corn snakes...

The boys are doing great!
Both boys have shed once, perfect sheds. I will be switching them to double pinks for their feeding tomorrow. They are still feeding at 5 day intervals. I have switched around their cages a bit, made them some new hides out of salt dough, and added reptile carpet versus the carefresh stuff. I like the cleaner look of the carpet. I hope to be buying them some nicer digs very soon... but we will see what the future holds.

Fluffy Shed!
I found Fluffy's skin in his tank today. Cinder is in blue, so he should shed soon as well. I was rather excited that fluffy didn't have any problems at all shedding.
Both are still pounding pinkies every 5 days with no problems at all.

Munson Feeding Plan
I am starting off following the Munson Feeding Plan. Once I get more familiar with my boys, I will be revising their feeding schedule according to them.... But being as inexperienced as I am... I'll start off with the plan I've seen so highly recommended:
The Munson Plan (Sample Feeding Chart): Revised 06/08/08
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-When they're on single pinks (2-3g), I feed every 5-6 days. (Snake = 4-15g)
-Double pinks (3g x 2) every 5-6 days. (Snake = 16-23g)
-Small fuzzies (5-7g) every 6-7 days. (Snake = 24-30g)
-Regular fuzzies (7-9g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 30-50g)
-Hoppers (9-12g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 51-90g)
-Weaned (14-20g) every 7 days (Snake = 91-170g)
-Adult (20-30g) every 7-x days (Snake = 170+) See below.
Note: Adult females are fed more frequently than adult males (especially following brumation). Adult females are fed every 7-12 days; adult males are fed every 11-14 days.
This is by no means scientific, and not all corns will cooperate 100% with the schedule. The weight ranges I gave for the prey and snakes are approximate.

January 2, 2011 First feeding
Both Boys took to their feedings well... No prolems at all.
I tried to weigh them, but they don't weigh enough yet to register on my mail scale.
I will re-weigh them tonight before I feed them again.
I added pictures to the boys' pages as well today.

Enclosures All Set Up!
So, I got the enclosures all set up last night and they are running beautifully! The warm side is running at about 92*... which is a bit high, but not too bad. I'll get a thermostat next check. Both enclosures are set up exactly the same...
10 Gallon Tank
10 Gallon Deluxe Screen Cover
Zoo Med ReptiTherm® Under Tank Heater, Small
Zilla Digital Terrarium Thermometer
I used a plastic cup with a hole cut out for the entry (soon to be exchanged. Forgot about a hide when I was shopping...)

New Baby Corns on the Way!
Well, I finally found two baby corn snakes in the color morphs that we were looking for. One is a Lava and the other an Okeetee het for lava. Both are males that hatched in August... I'm so excited. We stumbled across one of those deals you just can't refuse, so we weren't exactly "ready" for them just yet... but we will make due for now... The boys will be in by noon tomorrow...
I would also like to thank Todd from Y Knot Reptiles.... thats where my little boys are coming from :)
